CLARK FREEPORT -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Luzon
office has announced that the Philippines is set to chair and host the
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit in 2015.
Ronnie Tiotuico, DOT Central Luzon director, said the Apec National
Organizing Council (NOC) has identified nine potential meeting sites
including Clark, Subic, Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Tagaytay,
Boracay, and Bacolod).
The plan also includes tentative schedules and requirements needed in
terms of hotel accommodation, convention facilities, transportation,
security details, as well as criteria for host venue pitch.
The Apec is a group of 21-member economies that meet regularly to
support sustainable growth and prosperity in the Asia Pacific region.
Chairmanship of the summit involves actually hosting and chairing a
series of meetings from the Senior Officials Meetings (SOMs) to the APEC
Ministerial Meetings (AMMs) all the way up to the APEC Economic Leaders
Meeting (AELM).
These meetings will run from December 2014 to November 2015.
Some 3,000 to 4,000 delegates will arrive for the APEC Economic Leaders'
Meeting in November 2015 plus 300 - 400 CEO's (20-50 per economy)
including 300 - 400 members of the press.
Sectoral meetings will take place prior to AELM (Senior Officials'
Meeting, Human Resources Ministerial Meeting, Women and the Economy
Summit, Sectoral meetings on Energy, Food Security, SMEs, Science and
Technology, Transportation, Oceans, and Finance).
